This is one of the quietest spots in the middle of the city, and a very elegant one too with pretty shops and not too many tourists, even in non-Covid times.
It has got a village feel mixed with the sophistication of Paris. You get the Seine and you get narrow streets… and sometimes the presence of artists and other romantic characters.
The area features in Emile Zola’s “L’oeuvre” as the location of the main character’s first studio and Sculptor Camille Claudel used to have her studio on the island which in the 17th century was grazing pasture for the local cows.
